Abstract:
Purpose: Information literacy is a set of skills including information need recognition, method of finding resources, evaluation of search result, combination of the new knowledge and the old one making a new knowledge and using it, regarding morality in all above-mentioned steps. So information literacy is a set of skills which makes a person able to use resources efficiently and become a permanent learner. As librarians deal with resources more, they benefit information literacy more. The main purpose of this study is to measure librarians’ information literacy in National Archives and Library of Iran.
Methodology: Research method was analytical-survey (quantitative approach) and a researcher made questionnaire was used in order to collect data. Statistical population consists of 250 librarians educated in “library and information science” and other fields of study in National Archives and Library of Iran. It must be considered that the information literacy of all 250 librarians was studied.
Findings: Findings show that library graduates benefit more information literacy skill than non-library graduates only in the first standard. The average total scores of library graduates and non-library graduates respectively are 6.51 and 5.59. However, there is no difference between the two educated groups in other skills. According to the research result, librarians’ information literacy of National Archives and Library of Iran regardless of their field of study is as follow: the average score compared in the second standard is 12.6 among 182 librarians. In other words they can reach their information need efficiently and effectively. Where as in other standards, there is a significant relationship between the average score and 60 percent of the maximum scores. Conclusion: results of this study emphasize on efficiency of information literacy workshops, training courses while working, and English learning in order to improve information literacy.
